Position Opening

We are a dynamic, growing Episcopal and Lutheran congregation in Saline, MI currently worshipping 85 on a Sunday. We are seeking a keyboard musician who can lead singing well in the liturgical tradition. Goals

  • To enhance the worship experience by providing keyboard leadership for hymns and service music. This music will be drawn from a variety of musical styles, mostly traditional hymns, spirituals, Taize, and Southern Harmony melodies, but could also include jazz, classical, gospel, world, etc. Musician creativity is encouraged.
  • To enhance the worship experience through the selection and performance of music, and possibly through leadership of an occasional church choir.

Duties

  • Oversee and perform music for weekly services, including preludes, hymns, service music, and choir anthems (when applicable) using both organ and piano where appropriate.
  • Encourage, support and incorporate church member’s musical talents into service when appropriate.
  • Be in regular consultation with pastor to coordinate and review worship and music activities, including seasonal liturgy planning sessions (a few hours every couple months), and other as-needed communication.

Schedule

  • 9:00 am and 11:00 am worship service each Sunday during program year. Services are identical to each other. One worship service each Sunday during the summer.
  • Additional special services: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil (Easter eve), Christmas Eve (2 services), and possibly a Carol sing. These and other extra services to be compensated in addition to usual Sunday compensation.

Instruments

An electric organ (Allen), an upright piano (Yamaha), and any other instruments musician would like to supply and use.

Compensation and Terms

  • Compensation: Commensurate with musician experience and church size.
  • Vacation: 4 paid Sundays/year to be scheduled in consultation with Pastor (not during Christmas and Easter). Vacation Sundays may be taken after the first 6 months of employment have elapsed. Additional unpaid time off negotiable. Musician is required to find substitute musicians for vacation Sundays.
  • Church Musician reports to the Pastor.
On rare occasions, but no more than 4 times a year, Church Musician will not be needed for a service and will be informed 2 weeks in advance
