Christian Education

Picture

The guiding philosophy for education at Holy Faith is that it should empower church members to grow in their own faith and understanding. We are about exploring where faith engages with life and maturing together in our knowledge of scripture, our understanding of how to live a life of meaning and service, and our experience of God.

Young Children

As we are practicing safe worship practices during the COVID epidemic, there are no children's classes at the present time.

Every Sunday of the school year at 10 a.m. we offer nursery/child care for kids of all ages.

Once a month, a session for Sunday School kids of ages 4-11 consists of a Lego Lesson in which kids learn a Bible story and help construct a representation of the story with Legos.  After Sunday School, children join adults for the Communion part of our Sunday worship.

The teachers are committed to the kids having an experience of being loved, of learning the stories of our tradition and of exploring their spirtual lives at Holy Faith.

Youth

The confirmation youth (7th and 8th grades) meet with their leaders as they grow into their own faith development.

Adults

During the school year, we have lay led programs at Holy Faith, including an Adult Bible Study that meets weekday mornings.  These classes and activities are open to anyone who wants to join.

We have studied Islam, ending with a field trip to view a special collection of Near Eastern manuscripts; a study of the Passover ending with a Seder dinner; a short class focusing on the Gospel of Luke; meditations on the Stations of the Cross; a series of "Art as Prayer", which involved creating art; a whole year focusing on the Bible as a whole; and many of the other religions in the world - those in which we are in full communion and others we ;had never even heard of.  There are so many fascinating subjects - and this is all led and organized by members of the congregation.

We also learned about how the Bible came to be the way it is today- why specific readings and books were included and looking at the books that were not chosen, and we studied women of the Bible.
